Altitude · the thinking surface

Think on a canvas.

Put the idea on a board before you try to write it. Cards, arrows, groups, and a pen for when drawing is faster than typing. Every board is Markdown underneath, so it is yours to take wherever you go.

From $10 a month. 14-day trial. Your files stay yours.

What you do with it

Three ways people use Altitude.

  1. 01

Plan a video or a post

Lay out the piece as cards before you write a word. Draw arrows to show what leads to what, and move things until the order feels right.

Example. A "Plan a YouTube video" board: one card for the hook, three for the sections, one for the call to action, ink arrows between them.

  2. 02

    Map the week

Seven columns, one per day. Drop a card for each thing you mean to do and drag it to a different day when the week changes.

Example. Monday holds the draft. Wednesday has two calls. Thursday's card slides to Friday when a client moves.

  3. 03

    Sketch by hand

Pick up the pen and draw. Altitude is built for Apple Pencil and other styluses, with a pen strip for brushes and colour.

Example. A rough layout of a landing page, circled and labelled by hand, sitting next to the card that holds the real headline.

How storage works

On your device. Encrypted.

Altitude keeps boards and ink on the device you open it on, in the browser's private file system. Boards are Markdown, so nothing is locked in a format only Altitude can read.

  • One folder per vault. Each file is encrypted with AES-256, and the file names are hidden too.
  • The key comes from your passphrase and stays in memory only while the vault is unlocked.
  • A 12-word recovery phrase gets you back in, on the same device only.
  • Export any time from Settings. You get a zip of plain Markdown in the Obsidian folder layout.
  • On iPad, add Altitude to the Home Screen before you make a vault. A vault made in plain Safari can be cleared after 7 days unused.

The honest part

Cloud copy and sync between devices are next, not done. Until then, lose the device and you lose any board you have not exported. Export now and then.

Pricing

Before you start

Asked every time.

Does it work with Apple Pencil? +

Yes. Altitude has a pen strip with brushes, and it is built for the iPad. Pressure from the Pencil on a native iOS build is still being checked on my own iPad, so on the web version treat pressure as a work in progress.

Is this the same as the Obsidian plugin? +

It is the same canvas, running on its own. The plugin stays members-only inside Obsidian. The app is for people who want Altitude without Obsidian, or alongside it.

Can I open a board somewhere else? +

Yes. Boards are Markdown, and you can export a zip any time. Diagrams can also be exported as PNG or SVG.

How does the free trial work? +

You get 14 days of everything, editing included. Checkout is not switched on yet, so the trial button on this page takes you to the pricing section. When it opens, the same button starts your 14 days.

What happens if I stop paying? +

Your files stay readable and you can export them whenever you like. Read and export never lock. Editing and sync need a plan.

Can I switch from one app to the Suite later? +

Yes. The other apps appear in the same install. No reinstall, and nothing moves, because every app already reads the same place.
