A manifesto · from a Building a Second Brain mentor

Your second brain is a graveyard.

I helped build people’s second brains for years — inside the most respected program there is. Here’s the truth no one in this space will say: a beautifully organized vault that never ships anything isn’t a second brain. It’s a graveyard for your best ideas. This is where I stand — and why I teach the opposite.

Let me be honest with you

I watched it fail people. Including me.

I was a Senior Mentor inside Tiago Forte’s Building a Second Brain — the most respected program in this whole space. Thousands of vaults crossed my screen. Smart people. Decades of expertise. Folders inside folders inside folders. And almost nothing published. Ever.

For a long time I thought they just needed a better system. Then I noticed I had the same disease. I was organizing instead of creating. Tagging instead of shipping. It felt productive. It was avoidance in a nicer font.

So I stopped, and I rebuilt everything around one brutal question: did anything actually leave the vault? Almost nothing did. That’s the day my method was born.

The lie you’ve been sold

Organizing is procrastination with better branding.

✕

“Set up the perfect folder structure first.”

You’ll spend a month on folders and never write a single word.

✕

“More plugins, more power.”

More plugins, more fiddling, less shipping. The core app was already enough.

✕

“A bigger graph means a bigger brain.”

A pretty constellation is a mirror, not an achievement.

✕

“Capture everything.”

Capturing isn’t thinking. Hoarding isn’t knowing.

A vault you never publish from is just a very organized way of doing nothing.
AN IDEA your note PUBLISHED

What I teach instead

It was never about storage. It’s about connection — and what you make from it.

The point of a note isn’t to keep it. It’s to connect it — until your ideas collide and become something only you could make. Then you aim AI at that owned material and you ship. Not someday. This week.

Capture → Connect → Express → Build

Where I stand

The manifesto.

Six lines I’ll defend. If they make you a little uncomfortable, good — that’s usually the truth doing its job.

01

If it never ships, it never mattered.

A note nobody reads is a thought that never left your head. Output is the only proof you thought at all.

02

Own your files, or you own nothing.

Plain text, on your machine, forever. The moment your thinking lives in someone’s cloud, it’s theirs to change or delete.

03

Organizing is not thinking. Connecting is.

Filing sorts things into boxes. Linking makes ideas collide until a new one appears. Only one of those is thinking.

04

Point AI at your mind — not the internet’s.

Generic prompts give generic answers. AI aimed at your owned material gives answers only you could have.

05

A system you’re proud of but never use is a failure.

The aesthetic vault, the perfect setup — if nothing comes out of it, it’s a very tidy way of doing nothing.

06

You don’t need more input. You need output.

You already know enough to publish for a year. The bottleneck was never information. It was courage to ship.

This is the space I’m building in — out loud, every week

Stop organizing. Start building.

If this resonates, you’re my kind of person — and we should build your system together. Own your thinking, connect it, and aim AI at it until it ships things only you could make.
